Beginning as a short-form experiment with shape interpolation, GLITCHEN emerged as one of my more detailed independent works due to the ambitions towards dynamic movement and digit articulation. Following a vague cyberspace theme, and therefore limiting my palette to cool colours, the rendering on this piece was entirely dependent on relative values and hues as well as expansive use and transformation of rectangles in Photoshop.
Over 5 months, I fine-tuned each shape to emulate human movement and lighting while maintaining the angular look. Using merged copies of the final portrait, GLITCHEN took on different lighting tones and moods, proving the versatility of this art style.
While an extreme example of shape use in art and design pieces, the techniques learned from this piece have become essential in my layout design work, and continue to improve with each application.
